Things you don’t know CAN harm you!


Have you ever bought a plastic water bottle thinking it is good for you since you need to drink more water?

Yes, water is important for good health but when it comes in a plastic water bottle it can harm you more than help.

The nutrition and food science department at Texas A&M University did a study led by Dr. Clint Allred that showed how BPA or Bisphenol A a substance found in plastics, affects many areas of your body in a negative way. 

“This is the first study to show that BPA can negatively impact gut microbial amino acid metabolism in a way that has been associated with irritable bowel disease,” said Jennifer DeLuca, a graduate student in the nutrition and food science department and first author for the study. (1)

When your gut health is compromised you open yourself up to possible disease, digestive issues and weight that won’t budge!

If you often feel bloated, constipated, struggle with weight, feel moody or have a foggy brain your gut microbiome is more than likely being challenged.

It’s important to know that you could be unknowingly harming your gut health with normal everyday food and beverage containers that are made from BPA plastics.

Here is a list of items that can expose you to the BPA toxin:

  • Canned foods and other food storage containers
  • Polycarbonate plastic containers like many water bottles and even some water lines

  • Epoxy resins used to coat the inside of metal products

  • Some dental sealants and composites

  • ATM and grocery receipts (Yes, this is crazy!)

Wow, even grocery receipts have BPA.

In a study, published in the Journal of the American Medical Association, recorded urine BPA levels among 24 adults both before and after the participants spent 2 hours printing and handling thermal receipts. BPA levels jumped from an average of 1.8 micrograms per liter (µg/L) before handling to 5.8 µg/L a few hours later. BPA levels peaked 8 hours after the experiment at 11.1 µg/L. (2) (3)

It’s time to become aware of BPA plastics and possible health risks.

In the study above from Texas A&M University they found exposure to BPA’s can cause the following: 

  • Irritable bowel disease

  • Ulcerative colitis

  • Crohn’s disease

  • Severe diarrhea

  • Abdominal pain

  • Fatigue

  • Heart Disease

  • Asthma

  • Obesity

  • Cancer

As if that wasn’t bad enough BPA exposure can have negative effects on your mood, brain, and prostate glands of fetuses, infants, and children. UGH! 

How can you defend yourself?

Here are 5-ways to defend yourself:

  1. Become aware, which you are doing since you’re reading this.
  2. Wash your hands often and if you can, decline receipts from the ATM or grocery store
  3. Use Pyrex glass bowls with a BPA free lid for storing food.
  4. Purchase a stainless steel or glass water bottles and stay away from beverages in plastic unless it says BPA FREE!
  5. Do a detox and cleanse your gut and other detoxing organs and replenish your good gut bacteria!
